ALI BAQAR NAJAFI, J. - Through this writ petition the petitioner seeks a direction to the respondent University for issuance of roll number for appearing in M.A. Urdu Part-I Examination to be held on 20.7.2012.

The brief facts of the case are that the petitioner got admission in the Oriental College, University of the Punjab, Lahore in M.A. Urdu, Part-I, whereafter he has been regularly appearing in the classes of M.A. Urdu under Roll No. 81 and an Identity Card was also issued to him. After completion of M.A.
Urdu Part-I classes as regular student, the respondent No. 2 sent his admission form to respondent No. 1 but was not issued the roll number slip for appearing in the said examination.
3. On 18.7.2012 learned Legal Advisor of the respondent University appeared on Court's call and requested for time to obtain instructions from the University.

Today, learned Legal Advisor of the respondent University has appeared and submits that the petitioner tried to misappropriate a laptop of his class fellow, namely, Zafar Iqbal Roll No. 62 at the occasion of sending OF ceremony of M.A. Urdu Part-II students. This laptop was missing for a while but later on was returned by the petitioner. On this ground the Disciplinary Committee of the University vide order dated 20.6.2012 expelled the petitioner from the roll of the Oriental College, Punjab University, Lahore. Learned Legal Advisor of the University maintains that although the remedy of filing an appeal/revision before the competent authority is available to the petitioner but at present expelled student cannot be issued a roll number slip.
5. I have heard the learned counsel for the parties and perused the available record.
6. The petitioner seeks a direction for issuance of roll number slip and have shown his lack of knowledge about such order of expelling him from the University Roll. Admittedly the petitioner has completed his regular classes and unfortunately, the single incident was made a ground for his expulsion, which of course, is subject to the final decision by the competent authority. The decision may be either in his favour or against him but at present his exam commencing 20.7.2012 is, to my humble opinion, is foremost important. If his appeal/revision is accepted subsequently and the expulsion order is set aside, the petitioner cannot be put back the present position when he would have lost his one academic year.
7. In this view of the matter, on the ground of extreme hardship and to protect the valuable educational career of the petitioner, I am inclined to issue a direction, therefore, a direction is issued to respondent No. 3 to immediately issue a roll number to the petitioner for his exam M.A.
Urdu Part-I commencing 20.7.2012. It is hereby clarified that this permission to sit in the exam will ultimately be subject to the final decision of the competent authority in appeal/revision against the expulsion order dated 20.6.2012.
