1. The Administrator Zakat Gilgit-Baltistan has explained the matter relating to the embezzlement of Zakat in District Astore and Diamer and stated that at per Departmental Audit Report in District Astore a total amount of Rs, 36 lac has been misappropriated from Zakat Fund by the Chairman District Zakat Committee and similarly in District Diamer an amount of Rs, 13 lac has been found to have been embezzled by the Chairman District Zakat Committee. The Administrator stated that according to the Audit Report, the funds have been distributed without the nomination of local zakat committees and matter has been brought to the notice of the Chief Secretary who is Chairman Provincial Zakat Council for further action in accordance with law and that further distribution of funds to the Chairman of respective District Zakat Committee has been stopped.

2. The stoppage of fund for a longer period may deprive the deserving person from their share in Zakat, therefore, the Chief Secretary in his capacity as Chairman of Provincial Zakat Council may make alternate arrangement of the distribution of Zakat fund in the relevant areas so that the deserving person may not suffer. The Chairman Zakat Council Gilgit-Baltistan may also initiate system of cross check of the nominations being made by local zakat committees for determination of Mustahiqeen and ensure that the Zakat Fund is distributed strictly in accordance with spirit of Ordinance and Law. The matter is already under process for appropriate_ action in accordance with law, therefore, this compliant with above observation stands disposed of.
